Welcome to the Nibbana family website! Known as the only family in the world celebrating Nibbana as a last name, the family name was adopted in 1993 as the founder Charles D. Nibbana sought an existence separate from that of his natural father. The etymological origin of the word Nibbana is derived from the word nirvana, which means "freedom from external reality; heaven, bliss". The word held such significance and meaning for Charles that it was an obvious choice for a new family name. read more...

Which is Hotter? ~updated~

I am going to have a competition called “Which is Hotter; Sun vs. Big Red Star?”

I have been reading about our sun and stars and I went to a planetarium with my Grandma. We learned a little bit about the universe, but I did not find out which type of star was hotter. I thought a competition would be a great way to learn. Next Saturday I will look up  the answer and see who was correct!

Here is what you do:

  1. Read the title.
  2. Think about your answer. Do not look up the answer!
  3. Post your answer as a comment.

Thank-you!

UPDATE

Everybody was right, the sun is hotter than a red star. Congratulations! Everybody who participated can now spend as much time with me as they want!

I looked up the answer using Google. I found the answer on Wikipedia, but Mom made me check another site too. Here is the link to Wikipedia if you want to read more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stellar_classification

Ol’ Papa, I also learned that the stars are different colors because of how hot they are. The hottest stars are blue and the coolest stars are red.

My Summer

This has been a big summer for me! Ari, Mom and I stayed home this summer together and did a lot of fun things. Ari took art, science and literature classes at the local library while Mommy and I went to the kids section and played with their toys and read books. We went to the pool a few times too. I love to swim and am not afraid of the water at all. Mom and Dad have to watch me because I will try to get in by myself. We did other things too, like go blueberry picking, visit a nature center, and feed alpacas and llamas at a rescue farm.

A new playground was built near the pool. Since it is only a block from us we watched it grow and we finally got to play on it a few weeks ago. It is so much fun! There is a see-saw and swings. There are huge slides and lots of ladders I can climb, even though that part of the park is for the older kids.

Grandma took my cousins camping last week and Mom, Dad, Ari and I went too. It was hot but a lot of fun! We went tubing on the river and I loved it. I hope we go again sometime because it was so much fun. Mom or Dad held onto a rope that was attached to my tiny tube and they pulled me around or let me float down the river while making sure I stayed close to them.

Finally, I have been learning a lot of words too. I am learning to tell Mommy and Daddy what I want and need. I can tell them when I need to go potty or when I want to play outside. I also just learned to tell them I want to watch Elmo’s World (not Sesame Street, just Elmo’s World). I think I might drive them a bit crazy with that one. I also know some songs, or part of songs. I know “Tomorrow” from Annie, my ABC’s (although I just say A,B,A,B over and over), and a few others. I also know how to tell Mom when I want to hear songs!

I like staying home with Mommy and Ari, and I love seeing Daddy a lot more too. It has been a really good summer!

Dare to challenge My Brute

Want to play a game that is free, elegantly simple and yet terribly addictive? Then head on over and dare to challenge My Brute!

Not too long ago while perusing the news on Tyler Cruz, I came across his review for My Brute. Intrigued, I accepted his challenge and gave his character a run for his money. He quickly pummeled my character and taught me a valuable lesson, but at that moment I vowed to return one day and seek revenge. Victory will be mine!

The premise behind this game is elementary. After naming and selecting your character you make your way to the arena where you can fight up to three times per day. Your character has random strength, agility and speed attributes and is given a weapon or two to begin. As you gain experience and level up, your stats increase as do your hit points and opportunity to earn special skills.

Once in the arena you don’t actually do anything but watch the screen and root for your Brute to win. There are no buttons to push or actions to take, you simply sit back and relax and let your Brute do all of the work. Initially you may think little of this mindless entertainment, but soon you find yourself addicted to the brilliant simplicity of the game and looking forward to your next battle after a nights rest. The limit of three fights per day and desire to beat your next opponent will keep you coming back for more.

So what’s stopping you? Are you daring enough to challenge My Brute?

A Random Act of Kindness

Every once in a while something happens that renews your faith in the kindness of others. Today, we experienced one such event.

While running errands today at the grocery store we realized at the worst moment in the checkout line that we had brought the wrong bank card. As often happens, we had gone specifically to pick up a couple of items, including some shrimp scampi that Chuck had his heart set on. We realized we had brought the wrong bank card just as the cashier finished ringing our items and impatiently waited for us to get our act together while we were holding up the line behind us. We decided to put a couple of items back which were most expensive, namely, Chuck’s shrimp scampi. I could sense Chuck’s disappointment as we finished checking out and began heading towards the car.

As we crossed the parking lot, the gentleman who was behind us in line tapped Chuck on the shoulder and handed us the box of shrimp! He said that he had been in a similar situation before and someone had done the same for him and he wanted to pass on the goodwill. Needless to say, his act of kindness made our day.

These are the moments in your life that remind you that the world is full of magnanimity.

Staind concert review

The other night we saw Staind, Shinedown, Chevelle and Halestorm in concert. We were front row center and had the best view I could possibly ask for. We managed to catch a guitar pick from Shinedown, three guitar picks from Staind and a drumstick from Halestorm!

Kicking off the show was Halestorm, a local band from York, PA with a female vocalist and an absolute animal for a drum player. Coincidentally these two are brother and sister in the band, Lzzy and Arejay Hale, hence the band name. They did a great job of getting the crowd going and energized for the rest of the show.

Chevelle took the stage for an hour long set including their biggest hits. “The Red” was by far the crowd favorite and left the crowd roaring and ready to go for more. Personally, I was excited for Shinedown to take the stage as I have seen them live before and they put on an incredible show. Not to dissappoint, Brent and the band put on an electrifying show with their hits “45″, Heroes”, “Fly From The Inside”, and “Second Chance”. Brent’s enthusiam and interaction with the crowd was definately the highlight of the show!

Finally, Staind exploded on stage with “Raw” and continued their set with crowd favorites “Right Here, “So Far Away”, “For You”, and other hits before closing the show with “Mudshovel”. Aaron came down into the crowd to perform an acoustic set for “Outside” and “It’s Been Awhile” which was a treat for those further out in the audience. I was hoping to hear Aaron’s rendition of Pearl Jam’s “Black”, but it wasn’t to be tonight. Overall, their performance was great as they sounded incredible. My only gripe would be their stage presence, which lacked enthusiam similar to the gents in Van Halen we saw a few months back, but I had been tipped off by a friend and it was expected so I wasn’t as dissappointed as I might have been. Overall it was a terrific show!
